Changing Lives
See how your support of The Single MOM KC makes a difference in the lives of single moms around Kansas City.
How it works
Teams of four will complete mental, light physical, and skills challenges spread out around Museum at Prairiefire.
Teams will accumulate challenge points in two ways:
  1. Fundraising dollars raised as a team leading up to and through the end of the event. Your team fundraising page is created once your team is registered.
  2. Challenges completed on the day of the event. Expect challenge points to be awarded either according to time to complete a challenge or judging of the creativity to complete.
The event will culminate at an after party where the winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded.
Watch a short video previewing last year’s inaugural event.
* We are continuously monitoring the situation relating to COVID-19. Appropriate precautions will be taken based on the latest local regulations and CDC guidelines at the time of the event. Updates or changes to the event will be shared by The Single MOM KC if needed prior to the event.

FAQs
  • Teams of 4 can participate in the challenge.
  • Team members must be 21 years of age or older to participate.
  • A minimum of $200 per team is required to qualify for the challenge. The more money raised for The Single MOM KC, the better your team’s overall chances of winning Piece to Peace! (But don’t worry, there are points to be awarded, fun to be had, and prizes to be won for all the teams who enter the challenge.)
After getting together your team of 4 and designating a team captain or representative, you can register your team here. Once you complete online registration, you will receive an email confirmation. Instructions on creating your team’s personal fundraising page will be emailed to the team captain on September 25 (two weeks before the event).
A minimum of $200 per team is required to participate. Because this is a fundraising event, our hope is to see each team member commit to raising $250 to reach a team fundraising goal of at least $1,000 for The Single MOM KC.
Registration closes Thursday, October 7.
Yes. Donors will receive an electronic tax receipt via email for any donations made to The Single MOM KC. Online donors will receive this receipt immediately. Those who donate through check or cash will also receive a tax receipt within a few days of confirmed donation receipt.
Aside from the goodwill and impact your added donations will have to support The Single MOM KC, your team will receive 5 challenge points for every $200 raised above and beyond the minimum $200 entry fee. Challenge points increase your team’s chances of winning.
There will be 8 challenges.
We have allotted 2.5 hours to complete the 8 challenges. Each challenge will take about 15 minutes to complete.
For the most part, you can plan on using mental skills, such as puzzle-solving and fact finding. In addition, you will walk through experiences of single moms to better understand the challenges they face and to learn how The Single MOM KC supports single moms across the Kansas City metro area.
There’s little your team can do to prepare, as the challenges will remain undisclosed until event day. Plan to attend and have fun! The most important preparation will be to cultivate team relationships and ensure all team members get along and agree to work together.
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Team registrants will receive T-shirts at the event, but feel free to coordinate your own uniforms to promote team spirit! Be sure to check the weather to know what will be most appropriate and comfortable for event day. Depending on local regulations and your comfort level at the time of the event, bring a mask.
Online donations can be made through your team’s fundraising page. Each team will have a unique URL to share with friends, family, and colleagues. Major credit cards will be accepted. Plus, donors will have the option to help cover processing fees as a way to maximize their donations to The Single MOM KC.
Please email development@thesinglemomkc.org. Someone will reply to you within 48 hours.
Who we are
The Single MOM KC was founded to help provide hope, courage, and community to the 61,600+ single mother families in the KC metro area. Bearing the full responsibility of parenthood and provision for a family is often exhausting and isolating. We invite single moms to join us in community by equipping their family and providing resources to be restored into a better story. TSMKC is led by single moms who took ownership of their stories, created the community they needed, and now are seeing stories of triumph take place for other mothers in the Kansas City area.
