Lori Unthank served for 14 years as the Christian Education Director for Knox Church in Overland Park, with a focus in youth ministry. Following her years on staff at Knox, Lori worked seven years for Family Christian, a book and gift store, where she primarily served in management. After Family Christian stores closed nationwide, Lori found herself seeking the Lord for where He wanted her to serve. With Lori’s passion for kids coming to walk with Christ and a calling to support younger women, especially moms, she was excited and blessed that the Lord connected her with The Single Mom KC. Lori is grateful to walk alongside moms through their unique journeys.

Lori and her husband live in Lenexa. They enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren. She loves to travel, read, be in the mountains, and watch the Chiefs and the Royals.

Michelle Hartegan is responsible for the development and oversight of all aspects of The Single Mom KC’s volunteer program, including recruitment, training, and retention.

Michelle earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from MidAmerica Nazarene University. This opened a door for her to join the board of directors for the Feed His Lambs Foundation, which provides nutritious meals to struggling community members. Since that time, Michelle served in a variety of volunteer roles, including working as the nonprofit’s volunteer coordinator for more than nine years. Michelle believes giving back through volunteerism is vital to the unity of a community, as well as humbling and valuable to the volunteers themselves. In 2021, Michelle felt the call to move out of her 32-year profession as an educational sign language interpreter to become the hands and feet of Jesus by serving God’s people. At the end of 2021, she was humble and excited to join the team at The Single Mom KC and to work with the volunteers and moms.

For Michelle, The Single Mom KC strikes a special chord. After 19 years of marriage, Michelle found herself to be a single mom to her two children, a freshman and a junior in high school at the time. Michelle has felt the struggles of being a one-income household and understands obstacles of living as a single person. Michelle remains enthusiastic about the chance to walk alongside single moms as they move toward healing and restoration for a hope-filled future.

On a fun note, Michelle loves spending time with her family and is thrilled to be the grandma of two energetic and loving grandchildren. She loves being outside, dancing, making crafts, and rollerskating with her granddaughter.
